Nations, Toman & McKnight LLP has provided extensive pro bono legal services to a grass roots neighborhood organization petitioning the state and local boards of education for approval of a proposed charter school in Atlanta’s Grant Park neighborhood. The Neighborhood Charter School opened its doors in 2002 and has now reached its full complement of 360 students. The firm has also recently begun to serve as pro bono counsel for the Atlanta Charter Middle School, which is located in Ormewood Park and is still expanding its number of students.

The firm is a longtime supporter of the Atlanta Legal Aid Society, Inc. Mr. Nations serves on the Society’s Board of Directors and its Executive Committee, and was President of the Society in 2007. Mr. Nations has been a volunteer instructor in Emory Law School’s Kessler-Eidson Program for Trial Techniques. He is a Fellow of the Lawyers Foundation of Georgia, and currently serves as a Trustee of the Georgia Bar Foundation.

Mr. Toman has served as a member of the Judicial Selection Committee of the Atlanta Bar Association. He is a member of the Harvard Club of Georgia and for years has served as an interviewer for applicants to Harvard College. Mr. Toman has also served as President of the River Shore Estates Homeowners Association.

Mr. McKnight is a past President of and presently serves on the Board of Directors of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Peachtree Battle Alliance, and has previously served on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Justice Project. He is an elder of ChristChurch, Presbyterian.
